The Volvo XC60 is a premium all-wheel-drive "compact crossover" designed for both young and old audiences with significant demands on design, cutting-edge technology, functionality and a high level of safety ...

The second generation of the Swedish SUV "live" appeared before a wide audience in March 2017 as part of the international show of the auto industry in Geneva - externally and internally, it obeyed the uniformity of the current corporate design of the brand, noticeably grew in size, "perched" on a modular SPA chassis and received a wide list modern options.

The Volvo XC60 of the second generation looks like a "small copy of the XC90", which obviously only benefits him. From the "face", the car flaunts frowned headlights with LED "Thor hammers" fused with a hexagonal radiator grill, and a bumper truncated by the edges. The crossover profile will be distinguished by lightness and swiftness thanks to the sloping roof, steeply lifting up the sill line and athletic "hips" above the rear wheels, and its stern "flaunts" graceful outlines with intricate lanterns and a powerful bumper with two exhaust pipes.

The “second” Volvo XC60 in terms of its dimensions, as we have already noted, belongs to the class of “compact SUVs”: its body length reaches 4668 mm, its width does not exceed 1999 mm, and its height is 1658 mm. The front and rear axles of the "Swede" are separated from each other by a distance of 2865 mm, and its ground clearance with a conventional suspension is 216 mm.

The interior of the "sixtieth" is also made in the same style as the "older" model XC90 - the main emphasis inside the car is placed on the 9-inch "portrait" screen of the multimedia complex, which manages the overwhelming number of functions, below which only the "remote" control is "registered" on the center console audio system. The “pilot's” workplace is represented by a beautiful multifunctional steering wheel with a three-spoke design and a “hand-drawn” instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch display (in the “state” - with analog dials and a small color display).

The finishing materials in the cabin are at the highest level: high-quality leather, natural wood, aluminum inserts and other noble textures.

The interior of the second generation Volvo XC60 promises the necessary space for the occupants of both rows of seats. In front, there are embossed chairs with bright side support rollers and a decent amount of electric adjustments, and in the back there is a sofa that is clearly molded for two passengers (although a third can also be accommodated here).

With a five-seater layout, this crossover can carry up to 505 liters of luggage. The back of the second row is "sawn" into two sections in the ratio "60:40" - when folded, it forms a flat area and significantly increases the volume of the cargo compartment. By default, the car is equipped with a compact "spare wheel" and a standard tool.

Specifications. For the second "release" of the Volvo XC60, two petrol and two diesel modifications are announced, which are equipped exclusively with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive transmission with a Haldex multi-plate clutch, which, depending on road conditions, takes up to 50% of the moment on the rear axle wheels:

  • Diesel versions D4 and D5 have in the engine compartment an aluminum "four" with a volume of 2.0 liters with an in-line structure, intelligent i-Art injection, turbocharging and a timing belt with 16 valves:
    • in the "junior" case, it generates 190 horsepower at 4250 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1750-2500 rpm;
    • in the "senior" - 235 "horses" at 4000 rpm and 480 Nm of maximum return at 1750-2250 rpm.

From one place to the first "hundred" cars on "diesel fuel" accelerate after 7.2-8.4 seconds, maximally capable of gaining 205-220 km / h and consume no more than 5.2 liters of fuel in the combined mode.

  • Petrol versions T5 and T6 "Armed" with a 2.0-liter aluminum four-cylinder engine with direct injection, 16-valve timing, adjustable gas distribution phases and turbocharging:
    • in the first case, its potential is 254 "stallions" at 5500 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1500-4800 rpm;
    • and in the second, thanks to the combination of a turbine with a drive compressor, the power is increased to 320 "horses" at 5700 rpm and 400 Nm at 2200-5400 rpm.

They overcome the first “three-digit mark” on the speedometer after 5.9-6.8 seconds, reach 220-230 km / h and “drink” from 7.3 to 7.7 liters of fuel in the “highway / city” mode.

The "second" Volvo XC60 is based on a shortened SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform with a transverse powertrain and a body structure that uses high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels extensively.
The basic suspension of the car is a spring "double lever" on the front and a "multi-link" with a transverse composite spring on the rear axle. But for an extra charge, an SUV is provided with a pneumatic chassis and adaptive shock absorbers.
Regardless of the version, the "Swede" is equipped with a rack and pinion steering complex and an electro-hydraulic amplifier with adjustable characteristics. All wheels of the off-road vehicle are equipped with ventilated "pancakes" of the braking system, working with ABS, EBD and other electronic "chips".

Options and prices. On the Russian market, accepting applications for the second generation Volvo XC60 started in October 2017 at a price of 2,925,000 rubles - this amount will have to be paid for the basic version of an SUV with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel with 190 horsepower and an 8-band automatic transmission (though such "live" cars will reach our country only in the first quarter of 2018).
By default, the car is equipped with: six airbags, "cruise", rain sensors, rear parking sensors, ESP, ABS, EBD, dual-zone "climate", an infotainment system with a 9-inch display and ten loudspeakers, 18-inch wheels, and other modern equipment.

At the very beginning, the crossover was offered in Russia in a rich set of "First Edition" at a price of about 4.2 million rubles. She is able to boast: a completely "hand-drawn" instrument cluster, LED optics front and rear, leather interior trim, heated all seats (and the front ones are also electrically powered), 19-inch wheels and other "chips".
