At the same time, it is a mistake to believe that only American cars created by local companies are the most popular and sold in their homeland.

Statistics among the most popular cars in the United States suggest otherwise. It's not just local brands that are in the lead.

Leaders among manufacturers

First, we will find out which companies produce the most popular passenger cars that are in greatest demand in America. The latest data was collected by the US statistical agency GoodCarBadCar.

According to the latest information, over the past month, that is, March 2021, about 1.4 million new passenger cars were sold in the United States.

It is also interesting that this indicator exceeded the sales level in March last year by 68.3%.

All leading manufacturers, which are the world's largest brands, have shown positive dynamics. The number of sales increased compared to the same period last year.

In the first 3 months from the beginning of 2021, more than 3.8 million new cars were sold in the country. Compared to the period from January to March 2020, the increase in indicators was 14.8%.

As a result, the best-selling brands and cars formed the next top 10 in demand in the United States in the first 3 months of 2021.

  • Toyota. They managed to sell more than 517 thousand cars. This is a serious indicator, which only 2 brands managed to get close to. Compared to the same period over the past year, the Japanese sales growth was more than 17%. In many ways, this allowed us to take the final first line in the ranking.
  • Ford. It takes the second line. The American company showed a small increase in sales, about 0.66%. But still, this allowed us to get a figure in the form of 492 thousand new copies sold.
  • Chevrolet. Another local brand, Chevrolet, was still slightly behind the leader. They have an indicator of 464 thousand cars sold. An increase of about 8%.
  • Honda. Again the Japanese brand, here the sales figures are already noticeably lower. However, 309 thousand copies look impressive. In addition, the increase was over 14%.
  • Nissan. The fifth position is again occupied by a company from Japan: this time Nissan. Lagged slightly behind Honda, but sold approximately 266,000 of their passenger models.
  • Jeep. The manufacturer of SUVs and crossovers has not lost its 6th line in the first months of sales. Although in February it lost to the next number in the ranking. But a total of 198,000 cars sold kept it in the top 6.
  • Hyundai. In the US, it turned out, South Korean cars are selling well. And getting into the top 7 of the Hyundai brand is a direct confirmation of this. Their almost 183,000 cars bought by the Americans allow us to take a high position.
  • RAM. Again, an American brand, and the company specializes in powerful, large and brutal pickups. Favorite cars of millions of Americans, but in the ranking it is 8th line. Managed to sell 163 thousand copies.
  • Subaru. Another representative from Japan in the American rankings. Subaru could change the high ninth position to the 8th line, but literally 2 thousand sold cars were not enough to surpass the RAM indicators. As a result, 160,000.
  • Kia. And the second South Korean brand completes the ranking from the top 10 according to statistics. Kia is firmly entrenched in the local market. If we only counted sales in February 2021, then Kia would have taken the 8th position. But in the end it dropped to the 10th line, having sold almost 154 thousand of its passenger models.

The General Motors Company (GMC) was literally not enough to break into the top 10. They have 150 thousand cars sold. Further, there is already a serious lag. The same Mazda company, which is on the 12th line, has 78 thousand cars. It is followed by Lexus, BMW, Dodge, Audi, etc.

At the very bottom of the report of the analytical company, namely on the 29th line, was the Fiat company. Americans clearly did not honor this brand. There were only 815 people who have decided to buy one of the Italian cars since the beginning of 2021. For comparison, Alfa Romeo cars, which occupied 28 positions, were sold out in the amount of more than 4.6 thousand.

This rating was also compiled taking into account the sales in the first months of 2021 among the passenger cars, which were most loved by the residents of the United States. Commercial vehicles were not included. It maintains its own separate statistics, taking into account the demand for buses, tractors and other special equipment for cargo and passenger use.

The rating of US passenger car sales presented below was also formed on the basis of bare statistics. The figures collected by the analytical company were taken into account.

As a result, it was possible to determine which passenger cars are the most popular and demanded in the American market.

An interesting situation turned out here. The top 10 includes only 6 brands. Out of 10 positions, 6 were taken by foreign brands at once.

  • Ford F-Series. This is really a series of pickups. They are the most popular passenger cars in the United States as of early 2021. Among the best cars Ford managed to enter largely due to the lineup of versions within the same model. But since they are in no way divided among themselves in terms of sales statistics, then the number of sold cars was taken into account jointly. As a result, with more than 203 thousand cars sold, Ford confidently took first place in the ranking.
  • RAM Pickup. And again the pickup. True, from a different brand. Despite a solid increase in sales, which amounted to more than 15%, RAM company failed to come close to the first position. Almost 150,000 new owners were found on their pickups.
  • Chevrolet Silverado. Solid frame SUV. Classic American car model. Thanks to this car, American brands managed to completely take the podium from first to third in the ranking. Although there is a high probability that at the end of the year Silverado will drop at least 1 line lower, and all due to the fault of a serious competitor.
  • Toyota RAV4. The bestseller among foreign cars in the United States. If we take into account the February statistics, then the Japanese crossover would be on the 3rd position. But several months of sales showed a slight drop in comparison with competitors. As a result, 114 thousand sold RAV4 crossovers allow Toyota to confidently stay among the leaders.
  • Honda CR-V. And here there is already a rather serious lag. Although it should be added that in comparison with the same period last year, Honda increased sales by more than 30%. But still managed to sell about 94 thousand of their crossovers. The indicator is worthy. It was enough to take the 5th line in the ranking.
  • Nissan Rogue. Japanese company again. This time it's Nissan. Their crossover also fell in love with the local public. This translated into 87 thousand sold copies. The model showed a record increase in sales of all vehicles in the top 10. It was 45%. But even this was not enough to be above the 6th position.
  • Toyota Camry. Executive sedan E-class according to the European classification. More than 78 thousand Americans became the owners of this car in a few months from the beginning of 2021. The gain is minimal, only 1.25%. But on the other hand, Toyota Camry is consistently among the leaders, does not have sharp jumps and falls according to statistics. This sedan is in high demand. Moreover, this is the first model in the ranking that is not an SUV, pickup or crossover.
  • Toyota Corolla.Another car not from the number of off-road models. Looking ahead, it should be said that Camry and Corolla were the only such cars among the representatives of the rating. Corolla is a world bestseller, record holder. Stability, good performance and practicality make the car one of the best. The Americans appreciated this, which was realized in the form of 72.5 thousand copies sold.
  • Toyota Tacoma. And again the Japanese brand, but now the segment of large SUVs and pick-ups, which is a favorite among Americans. The Tacoma has solid dimensions and good off-road performance. In the first months, the car sold 66.5 thousand new copies.
  • Ford Explorer. And the project of the American company Ford closed the top 10 among the leaders in sales in the United States. Moreover, this is a relatively small SUV. It was not enough for him to be on the 9th position. As a result, 65 thousand cars sold allowed to enter the top ten and not fall out of it.
