The DS 3 Crossback is a front-wheel drive premium SUV in the subcompact class, combining avant-garde design, high level of safety, wide customization options and technological sophistication ... As the representatives of the French brand emphasize, this car will be a good choice not only as a city car, but also in the role of "carrier" over long distances ...

The official premiere of the crossover took place on September 13, 2018 at a special event held at the Parisian design studio DS Automobiles.

The five-door, originally designed for the installation of both traditional and purely electric power plants, received a truly memorable design, "perched" on a completely new CMP platform and "armed" with a huge number of progressive "gadgets".

Outside, DS 3 Crossback instantly attracts attention with its spectacular, balanced, distinctive and rather attractive outlines, decorated in the “family” style of the French premium brand.

From whatever angle you look, the car is teeming with interesting design solutions - a pompous front end with intricate headlights, a stylish hexagonal "shield" of the radiator grille and a raised bumper, an energetic silhouette with a sloping roof line, stamping in the form of a shark fin on the rear doors, expressive splashes on sides and short overhangs and a powerful stern with sophisticated lanterns connected by a chrome bar and two "large-caliber trunks" of the exhaust system (although they are absent in the electric version).

In terms of overall dimensions, the DS 3 Crossback is a representative of the subcompact class by European standards: its length is 4118 mm, of which the distance between the wheelsets of the front and rear axles extends by 2558 mm, the width reaches 1791 mm and the height does not exceed 1534 mm.

Inside, the premium SUV keeps pace with the times and looks beautiful, original and expensive - a "chubby" multifunctional steering wheel with a rim cut at the bottom, a completely "painted" instrument cluster (already in the basic configuration), a memorable center console with a protruding 10.3-inch the touchscreen of the multimedia complex and the rhombuses of the central air ducts and grouped buttons that control secondary functions.

The decoration of the car has well-thought-out ergonomics, solid assembly and high quality finishing materials.

According to the passport, the DS 3 Crossback salon has a five-seater layout, but only two adults can comfortably sit in the second row because of the protruding central tunnel and the shape of the sofa.

The front seats are equipped with embossed seats with a developed side profile, dense filling and a large number of adjustments.

In normal condition, the cargo compartment of the five-door crossover holds 350 liters of luggage. The second row of seats is folded in two sections in the ratio "60:40", without forming a level platform, but at the same time increasing the useful volume of the "hold" more than twice. In a niche under the raised floor there is a dock and tools.

For the exclusively front-wheel drive DS 3 Crossback, a wide range of modifications is offered (including a purely electric one):

  • Gasoline vehicles are powered by a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder PureTech engine with in-line configuration, turbocharger, direct-feed technology, 12-valve timing and variable valve timing, available in three “pumping” options:
    • 110 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 205 Nm of torque at 1500 rpm;
    • 130 h.p. at 5500 rpm and 230 Nm of peak potential at 1750 rpm;
    • 155 h.p. at 6000 rpm and 240 Nm of available thrust at 1400 rpm.
  • Diesel versions are powered by a 1.5-liter BlueHDI four-cylinder turbocharged, 16-valve timing system and Common Rail fuel injection, which is available in two power levels:
    • 100 horsepower at 3600 rpm and 270 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm;
    • 130 h.p. at 3750 rpm and 300 Nm of maximum recoil at 1750 rpm.
  • The electric version of the E-Tense is equipped with an electric motor developing 136 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque, and a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 50 kW * h. Such a crossover accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h after 8.7 seconds, gains maximum 150 km / h, and on "one tank" is able to cover about 300 km (it takes 20 hours to fully charge the battery from a regular outlet, and from an express station - 5-7 hours).

Conventional 100 hp engines work in tandem with a 6-speed "manual" gearbox, while the rest relies on an 8-band "automatic". How dynamic and gluttonous a car with an internal combustion engine is - has not yet been reported.

The DS 3 Crossback is based on the modular front-wheel drive "bogie" CMP (in the electric version - e-CMP) with a transversely placed power unit and extensive use of high-strength grades of steel in the structure of the monocoque body.

An independent suspension with McPherson struts is used on the front axle of the car, and a semi-independent torsion beam ("in a circle" - with coil springs and anti-roll bars) is used on the rear axle.

The crossover is equipped with a rack and pinion steering gear with integrated electric power steering. All wheels of the five-door are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated at the front), supplemented by ABS, EBD and other modern assistants.

The full-scale debut of DS 3 Crossback will take place at the beginning of October 2018 at the stands of the Paris Motor Show, and the first cars will reach European dealers in the first quarter of 2019 (a little later, it should appear on the Russian market) at a price of 25 to 42 thousand euros (~ from 2 to 3.3 million rubles).

A rich list of equipment is provided for the premium crossover: a scattering of airbags, matrix LED headlights, ABS, ESP, dual-zone climate control, an auto braking system at speeds up to 180 km / h, a media center with a 10.3-inch screen, dynamic cruise control, blind tracking zones, a fully digital instrument cluster, head-up display, heated and electric front seats, a power luggage compartment door and much more.
