Opel Insignia Grand Sport is a front- or all-wheel drive five-door "business-class" liftback, which is the "commander-in-chief" in the model palette of the German brand "Opel" ... Despite its "premium focus", the car passes through the department of cars "with a sports image" captivating with bold design and innovative technologies ...

The official online presentation of "Insignia" of the second generation was held in the first decade of December 2016 - the car lost its four-door body, put on the current brand "outfit" of the brand, significantly increased in size, "perched" on a new "cart" and received a wide range of modern equipment.

Externally, the Opel Insignia performed by "Grand Sport" delights with its beauty and grace - the five-door really looks cool and demonstrates complete self-confidence by its appearance. At the front, the car pleases with a predatory cut of headlights, a large radiator grille and a sculpted bumper with advanced aerodynamic elements, and at the back it “flaunts” elegant LED lights and a massive bumper, under which two “trunks” of the exhaust system “stick out”.

In profile, the "German" declares its sporty image - a dynamic silhouette with a long hood, a smoothly sloping roof and a short "branch" of the trunk, expressive "folds" on the sidewalls and impressive wheel arches.

"Insignia" of the second generation is a full-fledged representative of the "business" class (aka "E" segment according to European standards), which is 4897 mm long, 1469 mm high and 1863 mm wide. The car has a 2829 mm wheelbase between the wheelsets.

The interior of the Opel Insignia Grand Sport is fully consistent with the exterior - inside the liftback looks beautiful, modern and noble. On the center console, slightly turned towards the driver, there is an 8-inch screen of the IntelliLink infotainment center and a laconic block of the zone "microclimate", and behind the sports steering wheel, filed in the lower part, there is a stylish "toolbox" with a large display in the middle (which, draw a "classic speedometer") and two "physical rounds".

The decoration of the car can boast of a high level of workmanship and quality materials - pliable plastics, real leather and "metal" decor.

For front riders in the interior of the "German" there are relief seats with a developed side profile, a large number of adjustments in different directions and heating. Rear passengers are given a comfortable sofa that can accommodate even three adults, and individual ventilation deflectors.

"Insignia" of the second incarnation is a practical car: its trunk in the "stowed" state is designed to carry 490 liters of luggage. The second row of seats, "cut" into several sections, fits into a completely flat cargo area, thereby increasing the useful capacity of the "hold" to 1450 liters. In a niche under the raised floor near the five-door "hidden" a compact spare wheel and the necessary tools.

For the second "release" of the Opel Insignia, a wide range of gasoline and diesel power units has been prepared:

  • The initial version is a 1.5-liter petrol "four" equipped with a turbocharger, adjustable gas distribution phases, a direct injection system and 16 valves, which is available in two "pumping" options:
    • 140 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque at 2000-4100 rpm;
    • or 165 "horses" and 250 Nm of maximum torque at identical revs.
  • The next unit in the petrol hierarchy is a 2.0-liter engine with four "pots", direct injection, a turbocharger, phase shifters at the inlet and outlet and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, producing 260 "stallions" at 5300 rpm and 400 Nm of available thrust at 3000-4000 rpm.
  • The diesel part is opened by a 1.6-liter inline "turbo four" with a Common Rail power function and 16 valves, provided in two versions:
    • 110 "mares" at 3500 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 1750-2000 rpm;
    • or 136 horsepower at 1750-2000 rpm and 320 Nm at 2000-2250 rpm.
  • Well, it is closed by a 2.0-liter diesel engine with turbocharging, battery injection and a 16-valve design, which is armed with 170 "horses" at 3750 rpm and 400 Nm at 1750-2500 rpm.

All engines, with the exception of the 260-horsepower petrol version, are equipped exclusively with 6-speed "mechanics" and front-wheel drive transmission, while the "top-end" unit works in conjunction with an 8-band "automatic" and all-wheel drive technology with "standard" and " sports ”modes. It is implemented according to the following scheme: the connection of the rear wheels is controlled by two individual electronically controlled clutches, which allow, depending on the driving conditions, to change the thrust vector.

Gasoline modifications of the Opel Insignia Grand Sport consume from 5.7 to 8.6 liters of fuel in the combined NEDC cycle for every "hundred" of the way, and diesel ones are enough 4-5.2 liters of "diesel" (other characteristics have not yet been announced).

The liftback is based on the E2XX platform, a development of the departed Epsilon II architecture. The car body boasts a wide use of high-strength grades of steel and aluminum in the structure. The front axle of the five-door is equipped with an independent suspension with MacPherson struts, and the rear is suspended by means of a multi-link system.

For a surcharge, it has an adaptive chassis "FlexRide" with electronically controlled shock absorbers and three modes of operation (Standard, Sport, Tour), changing the settings of the steering, suspension and accelerator.

"Insignia" of the second generation is equipped with a rack and pinion steering complex, in which an electric power steering with variable characteristics is integrated. All four wheels of the "German" accommodate disc mechanisms of the brake system, supplemented by ventilation in the front, with ABS, Brake Assist, EBD and other electronic "bells and whistles".
