The first-generation restyled three-volume box for the Russian market (although the second-generation model has been produced in China for three years already) was first presented at the end of May 2017, and soon after that its production began at the facilities of the Kaluga plant of the PSA concern.

As a result of the update, the "Frenchman" received a new "face", decorated in the style of the brand's fresh models, tried on small "new things" in the interior and acquired new options, but it also did not do without technical "metamorphoses" - he was separated from a new base engine, mated with 6 -range "automatic" instead of a 4-speed gearbox.

The modernization has noticeably changed the perception of the Peugeot 408 - the changes that have affected the front end made the car's appearance more attractive, "adult", modern and even aggressive. The front of the sedan flaunts cute headlights, a chrome-framed hexagonal radiator grille and a raised bumper with integrated LED daytime running lights.

From other angles, the three-volume retained its recognizable shape and did without any visible innovations.

The "408" is, as already noted, the "overgrowth of the C-class", which is 4703 mm long, 1535 mm high and 1815 mm wide. Between the wheelsets of the "Frenchman" there is a base length of 2710 mm, and under the "belly" there is a solid, for a sedan, ground clearance - 178 mm.

Restyling did not extol the radical changes in the Peugeot 408 interior - it was separated by a relief steering wheel with silver inserts and a "flattened" rim at the bottom and a "family" multimedia installation with a 7-inch capacitive screen. Otherwise, it is the same nice and solid interior with well-thought-out ergonomics and a fairly high-quality finish.

The cargo-and-passenger capabilities of the French sedan have remained at the same level: its “apartments” can accommodate a driver and four adult riders, providing them with a substantial amount of free space, and the trunk is designed to carry up to 560 liters of luggage.

Specifications. For the restyled Peugeot 408, three power units are announced to choose from:

  • The base is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with a multi-point fuel supply function and 16 valves, which develops 115 horsepower at 6050 rpm and 150 N • m of peak torque at 4000 rpm.
  • A more powerful petrol version is an inline 1.6-liter "four" with a turbocharger, 16-valve timing architecture and direct "power", producing 150 hp. at 6000 rpm and 240 N • m of torque at 1400 rpm.
  • An alternative to them is a 1.6-liter diesel unit with four "pots", 8-valve timing, turbocharging and Common Rail technology, which has 114 hp. at 3600 rpm and 254 N • m peak potential at 1750 rpm.

The "junior" gasoline engine is mated with a 5-speed "mechanics" or 6-band "automatic", the "senior" - exclusively with an automatic transmission, and a diesel engine in tandem is assigned only a 6-speed "manual" transmission.

Depending on the version, the maximum Peugeot 408 rushes to 187-207 km / h, and accelerates from standstill to 100 km / h after 9.6-12.5 seconds.

Petrol modifications "digest" from 6.6 to 8.2 liters of fuel in the cycle "highway / city", while the consumption of the diesel version is limited to only 4.8 liters.

The restyled "408" is based on a front-wheel drive "bogie", inherited from the station wagon 308 SW. At the front, the car is equipped with an independent suspension of the MacPherson type, and at the rear - a semi-independent structure with a torsion beam (on each of the axles - with transverse stabilizers and coil springs).
The sedan uses a rack and pinion steering center with an electrohydraulic power steering. "In a circle" the wheels of the three-volume are equipped with disc brakes (in the front part - with ventilation) with ABS and EBD.

Options and prices. On the Russian market, the updated version of the Peugeot 408 (2017-2018 model year) is offered in four versions - "Entry", "Access", "Active" and "Allure".

  • For a car in the basic configuration, dealers want a minimum of 949,000 rubles, and its equipment does not differ in variety: LED running lights, ESP, ABS, full-size spare wheel, heated and electrically operated side mirrors, fog lights and power windows.
  • The "Access" configuration, equipped with air conditioning and airbags, costs from 992,000 rubles, and for the version with automatic transmission you will have to pay from 1,045,000 rubles ...
  • Prices for the "top modification" start at 1,147,000 rubles, and its features are: four airbags, 16-inch light-alloy "rollers", a two-zone "climate", a multimedia center, a rear-view camera, an audio system, heated front seats, cruise control, rear parking sensors, rain and light sensors, heated windshield and much more.
