A car with "premium positioning" is addressed to people who want a relatively inexpensive, but stylish, well-equipped and technically advanced "vehicle" ...

The five-door car celebrated its world premiere in March 2016 at the stands of the Geneva Motor Show (albeit then only as a concept car), and exactly a year later its official sales began in the Chinese market.

And I must say that the automaker has turned out a really worthy crossover - attractive externally, high-quality inside and modern from a technical point of view.

The exterior of the Borgward BX5 has attractive, harmoniously cut and fashionable outlines - despite the resemblance to some famous models, from the outside the car fully justifies its "premium positioning".

An expressive "front" part with a frown of lighting technology, an impressive "hexagon" of the radiator grille and a "puffy" bumper, an energetic silhouette with a dropping roof, a flying sill line and inflated rear "hips", a strong rear with graceful lanterns and a curved trunk lid - SUV looks solid enough and modern.

It is a crossover of the compact segment, which is 4490 mm long, 1675 mm high and 1877 mm wide. The distance between the pairs of wheels at the five-door is 2685 mm, and its ground clearance does not exceed 186 mm.

Depending on the version, the "combat" weight of the vehicle varies from 1550 to 1670 kg.

The interior of Borgward BX5, like the exterior, evokes associations with some models of famous brands, but at the same time it looks nice, modern and moderately presentable.

The embossed three-spoke steering wheel, a stylish instrument cluster with four pointer dials and a color display of the board computer, a massive center console with a protruding 8-inch media system screen and laconic "remotes" of the radio and air conditioning - inside the crossover there is simply nothing to blame.

The interior of the car is finished with high-quality materials, and it has no obvious problems with assembly.

The Borgward BX5 Apartments feature a five-bed layout. At the front are ergonomic seats with unobtrusive side bolsters, optimal padding density and sufficient adjustment intervals. The rear passengers are given a comfortable sofa, however, the person sitting in the center will clearly be disturbed by a high floor tunnel.

The trunk of a compact SUV has the correct shape and decent capacity (though its exact volume has not yet been announced). The second row of seats folds down in two asymmetrical sections, resulting in a virtually flat cargo area.

Under the hood, the Borgward BX5 contains a 1.8-liter T-GDI aluminum petrol engine with a displacement of 1.8 liters with four vertical cylinders, direct injection, a turbocharger, an intercooler, adjustable valve timing and exhaust gas recirculation, which produces 190 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 280 N m of possible torque at 1750-4500 rpm.

Together with him work a 6-speed preselective "robot" BorgWarner and two types of drive - front or all-wheel drive with a multi-plate clutch connecting the rear axle, and a rear differential eLSD with electronically controlled locking by means of a separate clutch.

The maximum capabilities of a compact SUV do not exceed 190 km / h, and its fuel consumption in combined conditions varies from 6.9 to 7.3 liters, depending on the modification.

At the heart of the Borgward BX5 is a front wheel drive "bogie" with a body, the structure of which is largely composed of high-strength types of steel. Both the front and rear of the car are equipped with independent suspensions: in the first case, a MacPherson-type architecture with gas-filled shock absorbers, transverse stabilizer and coil springs is installed, and in the second, a multi-link system with shock absorbers and springs.

All wheels of the crossover are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated on the front axle), working in conjunction with ABS and EBD. On the five-door, a rack and pinion steering mechanism is used, in which an electromechanical control amplifier is integrated.

At the beginning of 2018, Borgward BX5 should reach the Russian market, but in the Middle Kingdom it is already on sale at a price of 159,800 yuan (~ 1.4 million rubles).

  • In the starting configuration, the car boasts: two airbags, dual-zone "climate", ABS, ESP, keyless entry to the salon, a six-speaker audio system, parking assistance technology, 18-inch wheels and some other equipment.
  • As for the "top" performances, their equipment combines: heated and electronic settings for the front seats, a multimedia complex, a panoramic roof, leather-trimmed seats, a night vision system, all-round cameras, "music" with nine speakers and other modern "chips".
