The Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine is the "top" modification of the second generation of "compact SUV" premium from the Swedish company "Volvo Cars", which, in addition to avant-garde design and the highest level of safety, also boasts a hybrid drive ... March 2017 at the international exhibition in Geneva - in terms of design, it turned out to be a "reduced copy" of the XC90, and the technical "stuffing" with equipment was largely borrowed from the "older" model.

The appearance of the second-generation gasoline-electric version of the Volvo XC60 is subordinated to the current style of the brand - the crossover has a modern, elegant and rather spectacular look. True, it is difficult to recognize a hybrid against the background of a standard "brother", especially from afar - its features are only a "filling flap" on the front fender from the driver's side and nameplates on the trunk lid.

The external dimensions of the Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine repeat the model with the internal combustion engine: 4688 mm in length, 1658 mm in height and 1999 mm in width. The distance between the wheelsets and the clearance under the "belly" of the car are respectively 2865 mm and 216 mm.

The main “internal” difference between the hybrid version and the “usual” one is on the dashboard (where, instead of a tachometer, there is a “status indicator” of the hybrid power plant).

Otherwise, it is identical to the usual XC Sixties: it has a first-class interior (both in terms of design and used finishing materials), a large number of modern "gadgets", a five-seater layout and a well-thought-out luggage compartment with a volume of 505 liters.

Specifications. The Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine is powered by a hybrid powertrain that produces 407 horsepower and 640 Nm of torque, which is supplied to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission with electronic control technology.

Under the hood of the SUV there is a 2.0-liter Drive-E four-cylinder gasoline engine with a direct "power supply" function, a turbocharger and a drive supercharger, which generates 320 "horses" and 400 Nm of available traction and rotates the front wheels. The rear axle is driven by an 87-horsepower electric motor. This chain is closed by a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 10.4 kW / h, located in a massive central tunnel.

From a standstill to 100 km / h, the hybrid crossover "breaks down" after 5.3 seconds, conquering 230 km / h as much as possible, and consumes no more than 2.1 liters of fuel in mixed mode. The hybrid car drive has five operating algorithms:

  • Hybrid - automatic mode, where everything is determined by the electronics;
  • Pure Electric - in this case, only electric traction is used (the "range" in this mode is over 40 km);
  • Power Mode - here the full potential of both motors is used at the same time;
  • AWD - permanent all-wheel drive;
  • Save - this mode "freezes" the lithium-ion battery to save energy.

Technically, the Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine repeats the standard model: a SPA bogie with double wishbones at the front and multi-link at the rear, adaptive electro-hydraulic power steering and disc brakes with circular ventilation with a bunch of auxiliary electronics.
As an option, the hybrid can be equipped with air suspension and electronically controlled shock absorbers.

Options and prices. Sales of the second generation Volvo XC60 hybrid modification will begin in April 2017 (prices have not yet been announced). The list of standard and optional equipment for the car will be offered exactly the same as for the "traditional versions" of the mid-size SUV.
