The Paris Motor Show, which took place in October 2010, hosted many high-profile premieres, among which there was a "four-door coupe" Mercedes-Benz CLS of the next, second in a row, generation, a conceptual version of which in the person of the F800 Style was revealed to the general public in March of the same years at the exhibition in Geneva. In the fall of 2012, all in the same capital of France, the Germans presented its cargo-passenger modification, which was added to the name of the postscript "Shooting Brake".

At the end of June 2014, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, a restyled version of the car made its live debut, which underwent a slight facelift. In addition, the interior decoration was improved for him, the list of available equipment was significantly expanded and the technical "stuffing" was shaken up.

Outside, the second generation Mercedes-Benz CLS will not leave anyone indifferent - the graceful and beautiful appearance of the car is full of athleticism, however, not without a certain heaviness. In profile, the "German" fully justifies the title of a coupe, albeit a four-door, and all thanks to a swift silhouette with a long hood, a rearward-shifted passenger cage, a dynamic roof slope and the "muscles" of the wheel arches.

At the front, the three-volume box attracts attention with graceful headlights and a huge radiator grill, and at the rear - with drop-shaped lanterns and a powerful bumper with two exhaust system outputs. The “Shooting Brake” station wagon differs only in the design of the sirloin, which makes it look no less sporty, but even much more harmonious.

The overall length of the "second" Mercedes-Benz CLS is 4937-4953 mm, its height is 1418-1419 mm, and the width and size of the wheel base are 1881 mm and 2874 mm, respectively.

The interior design of the car is thought out, laconic and devoid of losing moments, and its attractiveness is in no way affected by the color scheme. Inside, everything is in its place - a stylish multifunctional steering wheel of a rather large size, nice well devices with white scales and a monumental center console with a free-standing 8-inch "tablet" of the multimedia complex and well-arranged audio and climate units. In the salon of "218", premium finishing materials prevail - expensive plastics, real leather, aluminum and natural wood.

"Apartments" Mercedes-Benz CLS of the second generation are supportive of all riders without exception, and the necessary free space is provided on both rows of seats. At the front, there are chic chairs with a well-thought-out profile, powerful lateral support rollers and electric adjustments, and at the back there is a sofa molded for two.

The trunk of the four-door version of the car is impressive - its volume is 520 liters, and for the transportation of long vehicles in unequal parts, a "gallery" is formed (but the floor is not even). The "hold" of the station wagon is even more convenient and roomy - it fits from 590 to 1550 liters of luggage, depending on the configuration.

Specifications. In the Russian market for the Mercedes-Benz CLS "in the 218 body" there are two diesel and two gasoline engines available, each of which is equipped with a turbocharger and a direct injection function. They are equipped exclusively with a 9-band "automatic" and a proprietary 4Matic all-wheel drive transmission with a standard distribution of thrust between the axles in a ratio of 45:55 in favor of the rear.

  • Basic version CLS 250 BlueTEC 4Matic equipped with an in-line diesel "four" with a volume of 2.1 liters, giving out 204 "horses" at 3800 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 1600-1800 rpm.
  • More powerful option CLS 350 BlueTEC 4Matic a V-shaped six-cylinder 3.0-liter diesel engine has already been put in place, whose output has 249 forces at 3600 rpm and 620 Nm of peak potential at 1600-2400 rpm.
  • "Initial" petrol modification CLS 300 4Matic has a 3.0-liter V6 engine in the engine compartment, in the arsenal of which there are 333 "horses" at 5250 rpm and 480 Nm of available thrust at 1600-4000 rpm.
  • "Top" CLS 500 4Matic (this version is available only for a four-door) "flaunts" a V-shaped "eight" with a volume of 4.7 liters, releasing 408 horsepower at 5000-5750 rpm and 600 Nm of torque at 1600-4750 rpm.

The starting "race" up to 100 km / h for the "second" Mercedes-Benz CLS takes 4.8-8.1 seconds, and its top speed is within 229-250 km / h. The petrol versions of the car have 8-9.6 liters of fuel in the combined cycle, and diesel cars require even less - 5.3-6.8 liters.

At the heart of the second generation machine is an E-class platform with MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link at the rear. The basic suspension on the "German" is spring-loaded with non-adjustable adaptive twin-tube shock absorbers, and a pneumatic chassis with two modes of operation - Comfort and Sport - is available for an extra charge. The "skeleton" of the car is 72% made of high-strength steels, and about 20% is aluminum (the hood, doors, fenders, trunk lid are made of it). By default, the car is equipped with an electric power steering with variable characteristics and ventilated discs on all wheels with a multitude of electronic "assistants".

Options and prices. The Russian buyer of Mercedes-Benz CLS in 2016 is offered at a price of 3,520,000 rubles for the basic configuration with a diesel engine, for the gasoline version you will have to pay a minimum of 3,950,000 rubles, and the "top modification" with a V8 engine cannot be bought for less than 5,340,000 rubles.
Nominally, the car is equipped with seven airbags, dual-zone "climate", leather interior, LED optics, power accessories, multimedia complex, premium "music", 17-inch wheel disks and a huge list of other modern equipment.
