KIA Rio is a budget four-door sedan of the B + class, specially adapted to the Russian operating conditions. The car is focused primarily on the male audience - for which it will be either a worthy replacement for a “supported foreign car” or an alternative to a “new domestic model” (especially in the case of purchasing the “first car”) ...

The fourth generation of the three-volume, in the version "for Russia", was presented on June 23, 2017 - during an online presentation.

Compared to its predecessor, the "fourth Rio" has noticeably changed externally and internally - it has slightly enlarged in size, received modernized equipment and acquired new modern options.

And in mid-August 2020, the Koreans showed the Russian public a modernized sedan, which visibly changed outwardly largely due to a serious plastic surgery "physiognomy", received minor adjustments to the interior and replenished its functionality with new options, but did not undergo any metamorphosis in technically.

The Korean sedan boasts a nice, modern and solid image, but its appearance now has "European motives" (although the previous model gravitated towards the "Asian school").

Not devoid of a bit of aggressiveness, the front of the car contains: headlights stretched almost half the length of the hood; a narrow radiator grille and a fanged bumper with LED daytime running lights.
The three-volume silhouette attracts attention: the sloping hood, which is visually much longer than the trunk; a smoothly sloping roof and correct cuts of the wheel arches.

From the stern, the "Korean" flaunts: beautiful lanterns (connected by a "jumper") and a raised bumper (with space for a license plate) with a fake diffuser and "pipes".

The "fourth" KIA Rio, as already noted, is a sedan of the "B +" class - with the corresponding overall dimensions: it is 4420 mm long, 1740 mm wide, and does not exceed 1470 mm in height. The center distance of the car is 2600 mm, and the ground clearance is 160 mm.

Interior

The interior of KIA Rio is completely devoid of "dubious Asian motives" - it is decorated in an attractive, strict and "European style".

On the center console are concentrated: an 8-inch monitor of a multimedia installation and a stylish, extremely clear, air conditioning unit with "floating" keys. They fit perfectly into the internal picture: the embossed steering wheel (carrying the control elements), also clear and "clean" devices with a color display in the middle (not overloaded with unnecessary "decorations") ... True, all this "entourage" is inherent in the "top" versions, while simple configurations have a much simpler look.

In addition, the strengths of the decoration of the Korean sedan are - neat assembly, high-quality materials and well-thought-out ergonomics.

Front seats "Rio" of the fourth generation have an optimal profile (with well-developed sidewalls) and decent adjustment intervals, and as an option - also heated.

In the rear seats - without any embellishment, however, there is quite enough free space here (even for adult riders), and the sofa is endowed with comfortable forms.

The trunk of the four-door, by the standards of the class, is not "record", but quite voluminous - 480 liters in the "stowed" state. The second row of seats is folded in two sections (in a ratio of 2: 3), but in this case, a flat area does not work. Specifications

For the KIA Rio 2020 model year, two gasoline four-cylinder "atmospheric" are declared, each of which is equipped with a distributed fuel supply, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and dual technology for varying valve timing at the outlet and at the inlet:

  • The "younger" versions are powered by a 1.4 liter (1368 cubic centimeters) Kappa MPI engine that generates 100 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 132 Nm of output at 4000 rpm.
  • The "older" versions relies on a 1.6-liter (1591 cubic centimeter) Gamma MPI engine, producing 123 hp. at 6300 rpm and 151 Nm of torque at 4850 rpm.

By default, both units are docked with a 6-speed "mechanics" and front-wheel drive, but for a surcharge they can be equipped with a 6-range "automatic".

Dynamics, speed and consumption

The four-door car accelerates from zero to the first "hundred" in 10.3-12.9 seconds, accelerates to a maximum of 183-193 km / h, and in the combined mode "digests" an average of 5.7 to 6.6 liters of gasoline per 100 km of run, depending on the modification.

Design features

The fourth-generation Rio is based on a front-wheel drive bogie with a transversely located power plant, and its structure consists of more than half of high-strength steel grades. The front wheels of the car "hold" to the supporting system by means of an independent suspension of the McPherson type, and the rear wheels are held by a semi-independent system with an elastic beam (on both axles - with hydraulic shock absorbers and lateral stabilizers).

The steering complex of the sedan is represented by a rack and pinion mechanism and an electric control amplifier. At the front, the "Korean" is equipped with ventilated disc brakes, and at the rear - either simpler drum devices or discs without ventilation, starting with the Style trim level (in both cases, in the "state" - with ABS and EBD).

Options and prices

In the Russian market, the restyled (2020) KIA Rio of the fourth generation is offered in seven trim levels to choose from - Classic, Classic Audio, Comfort, Luxe, Style, Prestige and Premium.

A car in the basic version with a 1.4-liter engine and "mechanics" costs at least 814,900 rubles, and is equipped with: two airbags, 15-inch steel wheels, heating and electric mirrors, ABS, ESP, air conditioning, two electric windows, ERA-GLONASS system and some other equipment.

A sedan with the same engine, but with an “automatic” can be purchased at a price of 914,900 rubles in the Comfort configuration, the same money will cost the version with a 1.6-liter unit and an “automatic”, but in the Classic Audio version, and for the “top-end »The modification will have to pay at least 1,169,900 rubles.

The maximum three-volume configuration includes: six airbags, 16-inch alloy wheels, single-zone climate control, electric folding mirrors, keyless entry and engine start, LED headlights and lights, front and rear parking sensors, a media center with an 8-inch screen, heating for all seats, audio system with six speakers, cruise control, rear view camera and other "bells and whistles."
