The Chevrolet Equinox is a front- or four-wheel drive mid-size SUV that boasts an attractive design, modern and practical interior, as well as a productive technical component ... It is addressed primarily to family people who lead an active lifestyle and prefer to spend time outside the city ...

The official premiere of the next, third in a row, Chevrolet Equinox incarnation took place on September 22, 2016 at one of the special events in the United States, and its sales in the North American market started at the beginning of 2017.

In February 2020, the car underwent a small update, as a result of which it was slightly "refreshed" in appearance and received minor changes in the interior decoration, without changing in any way in technical terms.

Outside, the “third” Chevrolet Equinox looks attractive, modern and very brutal - an arrogant “face” with an aggressive look of headlights, a stylish radiator grille and a massive bumper, an expressive silhouette with a dropping roof, embossed splashes on the sidewalls and large wheel arches, a taut rear with graceful headlamps , a large boot lid and two trapezoidal exhaust pipes.

Size and weight

The mid-size SUV is 4652 mm long, 1843 mm wide, and 1661 mm high. The wheelbase of the car extends to 2,725 mm, and its ground clearance is 200 mm.

The curb weight of the five-door varies from 1509 to 1680 kg, depending on the modification.

Interior

Inside, the third-generation Chevrolet Equinox boasts a beautiful and balanced design, well-thought-out ergonomics and a solid level of performance. An unpretentious instrument cluster with several analog scales and a small board computer display, a "plump" multifunctional steering wheel with a three-spoke rim and a moderately solid center console, which houses a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen of the media center and a climate system unit - at least visually, the interior of the crossover is produced exclusively positive impression.

The "American" has a five-seater salon, and a sufficient supply of free space in it is promised to all riders without exception. At the front, there are armchairs with a "relaxed" side profile, a large set of adjustments and heating, and at the back there is a full-fledged three-seater sofa with a folding armrest in the center.

In the arsenal of a mid-size SUV, there is a really impressive trunk, characterized by a regular shape and a huge opening, which in standard form can hold up to 846 liters of luggage.

The rear row folds down flush with the floor in two parts in a 60:40 ratio, thereby increasing the volume of the load compartment to 1,798 liters.

Specifications

For the third generation Chevrolet Equinox, two four-cylinder gasoline engines with turbocharging, direct fuel injection, 16-valve DOHC timing and variable valve timing are offered:

  • "Senior" is a 2.0-liter engine producing 252 hp. at 5500 rpm and 355 Nm of peak thrust at 4500 rpm.

Both engines are combined with either front or all-wheel drive (in the second case - with a multi-plate clutch that connects the rear axle wheels), but the 1.6-liter - with a 6-range "automatic", and the 2.0-liter - with a 9-speed.

Dynamics, speed and consumption

Design features

At the heart of the Chevrolet Equinox is the D2XX / D2UX front-wheel drive platform with a longitudinally placed engine and a monocoque body, the power structure of which is largely made of high-strength steel.

On both axles of the crossover, independent suspensions with anti-roll bars are used: in the front - classic MacPherson struts, in the rear - a multi-link system.

Nominally, the car is equipped with a rack-and-pinion steering mechanism with an electric power steering and a variable gear ratio. Disc brakes are installed on all wheels of the five-door (but ventilated in the front), working with ABS, EBD and other systems.

On the Russian market, the "third" Chevrolet Equinox is not officially sold, but it can still get to our country straight from Uzbekistan in the foreseeable future. In the United States, the car is offered at a price of $ 23,800 (about 1.65 million rubles).
