Skoda Karoq is a front- or all-wheel drive SUV of a compact category, which is positioned by the Czech brand as a “universal car for any life situation”, combining attractive design, a high level of practicality, excellent “driving” habits and modern “stuffing” ...

The official presentation of the five-door took place on May 18, 2017 at a special event in Stockholm - the crossover, which replaced the Yeti model, received a design in the spirit of the "senior" Kodiaq and perched on the "all-Volkswagen" equipment.

The appearance of the Skoda Karoq is designed on the basis of the brand's current design language - the SUV looks attractive, modern and quite emotional, although it clearly lacks some originality (inherent in the Yeti).

The car shows the most interesting view from the front, and the credit for this belongs to the "two-story" lighting technology, the "family" radiator grille and the embossed bumper.

From other angles, "Karok" has not so memorable (albeit very pretty) outlines: a dynamic silhouette with a high shoulder line, rounded-square wheel arches and a sloping roof and a lean stern with complex shaped lanterns and a large trunk lid.

In terms of its dimensions, the Czech fits into the segment of compact crossovers: it is 4382 mm long, 1603 mm high, and 1841 mm wide without mirrors. The distance between the pairs of wheels in the five-door is 2638 mm (for all-wheel drive versions - 8 mm less), and its ground clearance does not exceed 184 mm.

Interior

The interior of the Skoda Karoq is made in the corporate style of the Czech brand - it is attractive, restrained and completely devoid of ergonomic blunders. In addition to this, inside the SUV, albeit not premium, but exceptionally high-quality finishing materials are used. The center console is crowned with a capacitive display of the infotainment complex with a diagonal of 6.5 to 9.2 inches, below which the keys and air conditioning controls are correctly arranged. A three-spoke multi-steering wheel with a relief structure and a laconic instrument panel with two analog dials and an on-board computer “window” are concentrated at the driver's workplace (as an option, it is replaced by a virtual “toolbox” with a 12.3-inch screen).

Salon "Karoka" is moderately spacious: it can accommodate five adults, but they will be cramped. The front seats "flaunt" a comfortable profile with well-developed sidewalls, decent adjustment ranges and other "benefits of civilization."

There is a welcoming sofa on the second row, but space is limited. Optionally, the crossover has three separate rear seats with longitudinal adjustments and the ability to remove.

Skoda Karoq trunk has not only the correct shape and high-quality finish, but also a decent volume - 521 liters in standard condition (with the "gallery" folded - 1630 liters). With the individual rear seats (VarioFlex system), the load compartment capacity ranges from 479 to 1,810 liters. In a niche under the raised floor there is a "dock" and a set of tools.

Specifications

In Russia, only two four-cylinder gasoline units are announced for the Czech SUV:

  • The initial versions are equipped with a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter MPI engine with multipoint fuel injection, 16-valve DOHC timing and variable valve timing, producing 110 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 155 Nm of torque at 3800-4000 rpm.
  • "Top" modifications relies on a 1.4-liter TSI engine with an aluminum block, direct "power", a compact turbocharger, an intake phase shifter and a 16-valve timing, which generates 150 hp. at 5000-6000 rpm and 250 Nm of peak thrust at 1500-3500 rpm.

The "junior" unit is combined with a 5-speed "mechanics" or a 6-band "automatic", but exclusively with the drive wheels of the front axle, while the "senior" version can work with a joint with either an 8-speed hydromechanical automatic transmission and a front-wheel drive transmission -speed "robot" DSG with two clutches and an all-wheel drive system with a Haldex multi-plate clutch, which transfers (if necessary) up to 50% of the thrust to the wheels of the rear axle.

From a place to the first "hundred" the car accelerates after 8.8-11.3 seconds, and its maximum speed is 183-200 km / h, depending on the modification. How gluttonous the five-door is - has not yet been reported.

It is worth noting that in Europe the crossover is offered with completely different power plants: the gasoline range there consists of three- and four-cylinder turbo engines with a volume of 1.0-2.0 liters, producing 115-190 hp. and 200-320 Nm, and the diesel one - from 1.6-2.0 liters of "turbo four", which develop 115-190 hp. and 250-400 Nm. They dock with 6-speed "mechanics" or 7-band "robot" DSG, as well as front or all-wheel drive.

Design features

The Skoda Karoq is based on the modular architecture of the MQB, and in the "skeleton" of its body there is a wide proportion of high-strength types of steel.

An independent suspension with McPherson struts is installed on the front axle of the crossover, and the design of the rear part depends on the modification: front-wheel drive cars have a semi-independent torsion beam, and all-wheel drive cars have a multi-link system.
For a surcharge, an adaptive chassis with three operating algorithms ("Standard", "Comfort" and "Sport") is offered for the five-door.

The car is equipped with a rack-and-pinion steering mechanism, in which an electric power assisted with variable characteristics is integrated, and brake "pancakes" on four wheels (ventilated at the front) with a set of up-to-date electronics.

In the spring of 2020, the Skoda Karoq is offered on the Russian market only with a 1.4-liter turbo engine, but both with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive - in three trim levels to choose from: Active, Ambition and Style.
